I Covet Friday’s: New Vanity Tray

I’ve been slowly re-doing little areas of my apt for quite some time now. I keep getting delayed (getting pregnant, giving birth etc), but I am back on the case & trying to bring new fresh pieces into my life that feel great, function well and are finished. I have had the same vanity tray forever. It was my grandmothers and it is falling apart. The bottom is coming undone and my many boxes and baubles are crowded and not working. Luckily awhile ago I transformed the top drawer of my dresser with these awesome trays from container store. It made such a huge difference & being such a jewelry collector I can finally se what I have & wear more things more often which I love. Anyway, back to what I want. I really dig this Moscado Tray from CS Post & Co. The brass with the antiqued mirror will go perfectly with the C. Jere mirror I got on major discount from Jonathan Adler (it was slightly damaged) but worth it! While the tray is pricey, I think it’s worth it as its something you use & see everyday, and i hope to have it for a long long time. I am still trolling etsy & ebay for other options. So far I also like this Vintage Chrome one from CozyStudio, but it’s a totally different look. I hope to make a decision soon & just buy it!

Denim Diaper Duty

I had to post about these insanely cute Huggies denim diapers…sure wish they were Huggies Pure & Natural, which is the brand we use…then we’d get them!

Been a few days…Shooting & more

It’s been a few days since i posted last….I’ll be back on a regular posting schedule soon. Mr. W is rocking a mini-summer cold and I have been shooting a new music artist, Erin bowman. She’s an 18 year old soon to be mega-star & did quite an amazing job for her photo shoot. Check back soon as I have some more paper companies to highlight from the Stationery Show, I should have them up later today or tomorrow.

Sometimes Smaller is Better: Little Candy Cake

It was recently my mom’s birthday & we had a lovely dinner for her at Matsugen. I have never eaten & it was recommended to me by my lovely friend, Alexandra. The food was delicious and the sushi even better. You also can’t miss checking out their gorgeous fish tanks; proably the cleanest I’ve ever seen- all white sand & just lovely large interesting fish & sea creatures. My mom’s friend gave her the cutest little candy cake. I had never heard of this so I had to find out what this was. An adorable little cake (really chocolate candy) barely 2 inches high from The Little Candy Cake. What a great party favor, wedding give away or just a fun birthday addition to top any present. Check them out, not only are they pint sized & adorable but YUMMY….and they come in different mini-sizes- Love. I also believe they are in the new Limelight Marketplace.

I Covet Friday’s: Get me a chic Backpack!

There are certain items in a woman’s closet that we are forever searching for. I for one need a mid-weather jacket, the perfect black pants, and honestly a chic looking backpack. Now that I am a mom on the go, it is a must to own a cool bag that can double as garbage pail, look decent at a client meeting, carry a diaper, some wipes and a few toys, and generally NOT look like a diaper bag. To be honest I have a couple cool diaper bags (a few actually- stella mccartney, skip hop), but I really want a backpack that can carry me throughout many moods. I’ve been stealing and using my husbands black simple Victorinox Swiss pack that is a touch too small for him and perfect for me, but it’s a black pack with mesh pockets- cool for weekend & bumming around, not cool enough to make an impression. So here goes with some super cute back packs I covet: 1. My first & favorite would have to be the Rachel Comey pack. Made in 2 beautiful prints, i’ll have to ignore the bits of leather that could have been excluded. I must say this is at the high end of any budget, but if you use it everyday (or at least lots why not- note the justification already beginning) 2. Ok this Alexander Wang pack, I had to add in as it is on the ridiculous side of budget and I am purely showing it so I don’t feel guilty about the previous Comey one i really want, and I luv me some Alexander Wang. At $875 this is unjust. 3. Gotta love a classic: LeSportsac. For under $150 ($120 to be exact) get yourself a black patent classic pack you can’t go wrong with. 4. Well we’re back up in the budget again with this relatively interesting pack from Hillary Taymour, sold at Urban Outfitters. This Collina Strada Novella bag is just plain hip and can be worn as a backpack or crossbody- and we know how popular the crossbody style is these days. I think the graphic pattern and graduated stacked leather flap detail is tre-chic. 5. This next yummy pack called the Odyssey – Nappa from Matt & Nat is too small for my everyday choice, but it’s vegan (LOVE) and super cool. The antique brass hardware I luv. I’m telling you if it were just slightly bigger it’d be en route to me already! And also if you are not familiar with Matt & Nat GET FAMILIAR! They are one of, if not THE coolest vegan fashion oriented bag line out there. 6. Another overpriced classic is the Prada Nylon backpack & NOT in black. I think going with navy is the thing to do. With this price point it won’t be mine, but remember ‘I covet Friday’ is all about what I covet not always what I buy. 7. The last one I’ll feature is Jcrew’s Rumpled Sateen pack. This is a utilty gone mini-glam option. While I am on the fence about the color, I think with the right outfits this can work really well and it’s roomy and with a price at $138 is not awful. So this wouldn’t be complete without mentioning a few sporty options. I did not feature any of these as CHIC was a requirement, and some of these are just cool, working downtown-looking back packs, but hey some of you might dig them: Marc Jacobs Nylon Men’s pack, Simple Hangover , Deux Lux Bucket bag, Fatboy large Jumper, Canvas Multi-pocket from Top Shop, & Hurley one & only 2 pack.

Since we’re looking at a lot of stationery.

These watercolor cards by Jordan Ferney at Oh Happy Day…take my breath away.  Not much to say but WOW. Apparently she made them for Aubrey Trinnaman, and unbelievably talented photographer. Her work also is beautiful and quite worthy of these deliciously soft and subtle cards.

Get into these vintage Jellies!

a bit ago i did a fun post on chic jellies…and these fit the bill. I want them.  too small however for my post-preggo feet….for $32 i better smoosh!

Romp New Addition

I had to post about this as soon as I heard. Romp carries these amazing wallpaper silhouettes from the netherlands (cut by disadvantaged adults mind you) and i love them.  They are all over Mr. W’s room. This new addition of a baby elephant is so lovely & the wallpaper is super cute. Roar!

National Stationery Show: Post 5: Standout Paper

There was really so many great paper companies at the show, yet still quite a few standout companies showing really bold and original work that I have to share with you all. A lot of my choice,s I also have to add, are not ‘traditional’. I like different feels, the interesting use of color treatments, great paper choices and tend to really migrate toward clear points of view (I’ve mentioned this a lot) and also strong use of color. Along those lines here are a few of my favorites: 1. Kamal. I love Kamal’s mix of kraft and color and flat metallics, her strong letterpressed modern indian sensibility and how lovely she is as well as her great sense of style truly makes the designs and her company what it is. The designs are very current & fresh and bold, with patterns that are distinctly indian yet the modern hand is quite compelling. Her new bookmarks are lovely (pic here) – i really dig the use of kraft combined with the strong graphic pattern in metallic and the pops of turquoise & hot pink are yummy. Stick these to your bulletin board don’t hide them stuffed inside a book! While not new to NSS, Kamal’s newish wrapping sheets & new bookmarks are what to look at. 2. Next I have to mention Rifle Paper co. I mean really- this couple is truly turning out incredibly lovely work with such a fresh modern woodsy aesthetic with her hand painted designs and illustrations. I love it. Their custom work is beyond cute- get me those cards! (sorry not my image- their booth was overflowing at the time) 3. Waste Not Paper. While I already dig their beautifully patterned notecards, what caught my eye this show are their awesome wall art/calendars. What a truly cool concept. Each month can be re-used as a file folder, gift box, notecard etc – there are handy templates printed on the back- I love these! There are so many more i want to post about and i intend to highlight a few more great designers so check back for the next post.

The Stationery Show: Post 4 – Write on with Kids

I’m seeing a lot of are items that encourage you to get hands on with your kids and I love it! It’s really important to teach manners early on and with email being such an easy & impersonal option- encouraging your kids to write notes and make things for family and friends is a great way to have fun and encourage creativity. So along those lines here are some great companies thinking of awesome paper products for your kids. 1. First is “Scribble – For kids too young to write” from Lead Graffitti [booth 2767]. Ok this is just plain clever. Really sweet blind debossed folded cards allow for kids to use crayons and scribble or draw on them and the color creates a lovely impression from the deboss on the cards making a fun custom artwork project- a la – thank you’s / miss you’s / love you cards. I dig this a lot. 2. Next up are these super fun letterpressed color – yourself kraft place mats by 9SpotMonk [booth:3028]. I think it’s great to have that added level of texture from the letterpress that little hands will enjoy as well as the great quantity per pack (good for parties, mommies groups or just getting a lot of meals out covered.) The designs are adorable (rockets, fruit & veg) and are just begging for a good scribble. 3. Next up is fun for older kids and the kid and chic adult in all of us: Re-useable tags by Any Random Jane. I love these laminated re-writeable tags for all kinds of kid uses: kids sleepovers: label their overnight bags, parties: label giftbags, party name tags, kid room storage labeling and more. Older kids can do their own labeling for bookbags, cut into shapes and create their own keychains and change the label as often as they like. These kits come with 12 assorted colorful tags and a dry-erase marker all in a super convenient little plastic envelope. Get into it and check out booth 3235!
