Part of me is not sure i should share this AWESOME holiday gift. At a mere $10 it’s a steal. Granted it’s made out of paper…but I just love it. I think I may have to have tons of them. On my list for sure. Check out Etsy shop etco & their adorable white & gold mini-bowl. Maybe you need a ring holder at your bedside, or a lovely paperclip holder…so may options. I also really dig the larger gold & white bowl, and the black bowls. Ok it’s clear i like these guys! p.s. I can’t get behind their rabbits foot, but to each his/her own….trying not to place judgement.

Chic & Cheap holiday find!
Score me a Solder!
Ok, these have to be the most amazing terrariums I’ve seen yet. Score & Solder have a lovely geometric line of planters & terrariums that are so innovative and chic. Designed by Matthew Cleland, a self-proclaimed traveling gypsy, Matthew makes the terrariums, hanging cubes & jewelry is coming soon. Each item is hand-made. I must have one! Oh & the bonus: each terrarium comes with quartz, rocks, activated charcoal & soil–score!
Leaf Shadows
I was walking home in the evening with my family by Lincoln Center, and was noticing how the lights made these lovely leaf shadows with the trees. They were like natural paintings, and were truly inspiring and beautiful. The fern like trees were lightly shaking in the wind, which made them feel almost alive, and watching their shadows was like being caught up in a beautiful silent film. The ginkgo tree on the other hand was a bit different and more graphic, which was also super cool. My little one loved seeing the lights and shadows, I’m not sure he fully understands yet, but we managed to throw in some hand shadow-puppet birds for full affect. I like the feel of these so much they may inspire a new line of stationery. Or maybe some prints…we shall see.
Painting Pumpkins with 2 Year olds!
So after our lovely farm weekend, where we got these great pumpkins, I promised my little one we’d paint them…and that we did. Note to all you mom’s out there- a promise to a 2 year old does not go forgotten, at least in this house. I got some non-toxic paint, which sorta didn’t work, as poster paint apparently peels off pumpkins…annoying, but hopefully they’ll at least last through the holiday. It was a total blast. A few brushes, a patient mom, and some pumpkins & voila’ a super fun afternoon art activity. I wasn’t sure it’d work as he loses interest halfway through certain projects, but he was all in…and quite creative with his color choices. Also, since i am a bit OCD, I was also thrilled he didn’t do too much brush/paint mixing….I made sure to have a few brushes to avoid the typical muddy color we get sometimes when he blends all colors together. I started my own pumpkin, but due to toddler supervision have only finished halfway…I’ll show that creative genius shortly (:
I Covet Friday’s: Affordable prints
I finally got around to hanging a load of prints in my LR that have been tucked away (I’ll show you some pics soon), however, it has also sparked me to get some new work, and continue to fill in. I love trolling the web for new & cool artists, illustrators & photographers. I think the key with buying prints is putting your own spin on each piece and being creative in how you frame the work. A cool partnership btwn Society6 & Urban Outfitters, The Print Shop, is worth checking out for very affordable art. I love this Coney Island Print by Mina Georgescu.

And he turns 1!

So as many of you know I have been planing my little guy’s first birthday (which also happens to be my birthday) for quite some time. I wanted to share a re-cap, some pics and some of the truly great items i pulled together and just loved. For the table centerpiece, toothpics in the mini cupcakes and some of the wall decor I used Meri Meri’s Animal Parade and got it from the birthday section of diapers.com. Not sure how many of you use this or even knew they had a birthday section, but wow was it easy. I had it ordered & sent a few weeks before & saved myself loads of time rushing around store to store to find what I liked. I ordered my amazing invites from Night Owl Paper Goods and boy was I thrilled. I really wanted to have something forever from the birthday and night owl gave me the chance to have a beautiful wood invitation that I am going to frame and hang up in his room…what a treat. and by the way dealing with Megan and the team there was so super easy and smooth- for any celebratory events you must print on wood! I also used Hip Hooray’s awesome flag banners in rainbow. I felt i’d much rtaher buy banners (or garland) that I can re-use and keep. The material was quite durable and the color & style so very festive – i Loved it! I also can’t really talk about the lovely little soiree without discussing my most favorite item – the cake! I got the most yummy mini-cupcakes and cake from One Girl Cookies in Brooklyn and boy did they deliver the most scrumptious cake! It was vanilla cake with a dulce du leche caramel filling and a vanilla buttercreme – beyond! While the design was uber simple (I upped the look with little animal candles) for a first birthday I didn’t think we had to have anything too ‘kiddie’ since it was really for the adults. Speaking of adults I crazily made too much food: orzo salad with feta, 2 types of veggie sandwiches: tomato, mozzarella, basil & pesto, and a grilled veggie, artichoke and roasted mushroom sandwich, and had loads of sparkling pink lemonade and french berry soda from Lorina – I love that they are just natural, i think it’s fine to enjoy a little sweet when it’s not junky soda; plus it’s so lovely & festive for a party.

Getting ready for the Birthday Bash
Well, I can’t even believe we are almost one month away from Mr. W’s first birthday. This has been the shortest year with the most amount of change in my entire life….and by far the best. I am enjoying thinking of fun ways to celebrate my boy’s birthday, and really the joy that he has brought into our lives. My husband and i were just saying last night how lucky we are to have so much fun with our little guy. Since he’s such a little guy, most of the details are really for me, so I am just having a ball at browsing & deciding what to choose. I have chosen a loose theme incorporating animals and circus, i don’t like everything matchy matchy, so I am just looking for fun and cute and kid-friendly. I ordered the invites from Night Owl Paper Goods. If you want some amazing wood cards or custom work done check them out. When they arrive I’ll post a pic. I am also looking at having Hello Super 8 shoot us a super cool film of the day- it’s the most expensive part of the day, but i think it’ll be worth it…AND since it’s also my birthday that day, it’s really a present to myself. Since last years gift (the baby) was the best gift I could EVER receive, I figured I’d try and come close. I am also looking at a few fun party items, not sure which I will choose: This super cute Animal centerpiece and the matching Meri Meri garland, dying for this adorable party hat to come back into stock, I may do mini-cupcakes and these are the perfect cupcake tapers. I may also have to take inspiration from the sweet master, Amy Atlas for set up ideas, and generally get creative with kid goodies and more. Stay tuned as I get it all together. p.s. do you think I could get my husband to work out these awesome balloon animals?
Had to have it: Sustainable Cork Board
Since I had my baby, my office space has been relegated to a very very small corner in my living room. It’s amazing the amount of work I can get done in a 36″ square area, but let me be clear I need more…One way i am working to make the space more deal-able is by making it more functional while still attractive. I’ve been avoiding certain things as I really don’t dig seeing all the work stuff in the middle of my home. However, I am trying to be clever and fun about it & these sustainable cork boards designed by Poko Design are just the thing. Having been designed from animals affected by global warming, 2% of the proceeds is donated to treenation. How cool is that. For $20 you can’t go wrong. Now i can get all these tears up for inspiration. I ordered two of the birds to face one another. I may even paint them….I’ll keep you posted and take a picture once they are in full effect.

You better WERK! – Plywerk that is.
As I’ve mentioned here before I have been meaning to get a bunch of my images printed & mounted. This is an ongoing task as making the choices of how to print and what to print and where to hang etc, when it is for yourself and not a client, is quite hard. The possibilities are endless and that makes things complicated for a gal like me that likes a lot of things and has a lot of ideas. This brings me to tell you about a great company that I’ve been watching: Plywerk. Love them. based in Portland, these guys have made a really great product of wood panels cut for art mounting and hanging. Their panels come in about 30 different sizes and they offer over 10 different types of photo papers for them to print and mount your artwork. They also have a super informative user-friendly site to make ordering simple. I chose 2 of the pieces from my environment series as 12X12 3/4″ bamboo. I think they came out really great. I am also going to test out some more work smaller and larger, and i’ll keep you posted. Truly a really great product.
I Covet Friday’s: New Vanity Tray
I’ve been slowly re-doing little areas of my apt for quite some time now. I keep getting delayed (getting pregnant, giving birth etc), but I am back on the case & trying to bring new fresh pieces into my life that feel great, function well and are finished. I have had the same vanity tray forever. It was my grandmothers and it is falling apart. The bottom is coming undone and my many boxes and baubles are crowded and not working. Luckily awhile ago I transformed the top drawer of my dresser with these awesome trays from container store. It made such a huge difference & being such a jewelry collector I can finally se what I have & wear more things more often which I love. Anyway, back to what I want. I really dig this Moscado Tray from CS Post & Co. The brass with the antiqued mirror will go perfectly with the C. Jere mirror I got on major discount from Jonathan Adler (it was slightly damaged) but worth it! While the tray is pricey, I think it’s worth it as its something you use & see everyday, and i hope to have it for a long long time. I am still trolling etsy & ebay for other options. So far I also like this Vintage Chrome one from CozyStudio, but it’s a totally different look. I hope to make a decision soon & just buy it!
